WHAT IS H 13 STEEL?

It is a versatile chromium-molybdenum hot work steel.

This steel is widely used for the hot and cold work tooling applications.

Its hardness (means hot strength) resists cracking due to thermal fatigue.

Which happens due to the cyclic heating and cooling in the hot work tooling applications.

WHAT IS PURPOSE OF TEMPERING OF H 13 STEEL?

After quenching immediately temper the H 13 Steel.

The model tempering range is between 1000-1150°F (i.e, 538-621°C).

Hold the steel at the tempering temperature for 1 hr/inch (i.e, 25.4mm) of the thickness.

Then keep it for normal cooling for 2 hrs.

To maximize toughness and also the tool performance, double tempering is required.

And third tempering is often used for stress relief.

Heat Treatment:

Hardening:

Preheat at 650 ° C- 850 ° C and raise to 1020 ° C.-1050 ° C.Cool in air, oil or salt bath held at 500 ° C-550 ° C and then cool in air.

Forge at 900° C to 1100° C. Cool  slowly and anneal immediately.

Anneal:

Anneal at 850° C-870° C.Cool slowly in furnace.

Temper:

Double tempering recommended at 500° C-650° C cool in air.

Stress Relieving: h13 steel composition,h13 steel composition,h13 steel composition,h13 steel composition

Stress relieve at 600° C to 650° C and also cool in air.
